All I do is win.
Friends, this week's theme is as follows:
Alas, it's already nearing the end of summer, and as such, it's time for a long awaited vacation to the land of pasta, Italy. We'll be attaining mindfulness, reaching a state of Nirvana, and meditating over the meaning of life as we sip (read: chug) local wine and paint our way through the hilly countrysides of Tuscany.
The program is called Nutrition for the Soul, and it's led by one of my very good friends (and past newsletter featured author) Nataly Kogan. Stay tuned. Life-altering moments of clarity to come.

What's in your SkillStack?
1. Sorry, more capital won't make you successful.
According to my client, Denice Sakakeeny. Read why.
2. The internet's original sin.
In this article (from the archive of The Atlantic) Ethan Zuckerman argues that it's not too late to ditch the ad-based business model and build a better web. Publishers on my list: read this article.
3. Arianna, say it ain't so!
Ms. Huffington is saying goodbye to her namesake publication and instead moving on to a health and wellness company. "When we started, there was no Facebook, no video, no social. It was tech 101, but Arianna saw the possibilities. Without her marketing genius, her editing, and her contacts, none of this would have happened." Read more.
Note: I think this is a very interesting move. Arianna was an innovator in the world of online publishing as we know it today (for example, contributed and aggregated content alongside columnists) and her decision to move from publishing to a training/wellness business is telling as to where she thinks the opportunity lies.
Also, fun fact, her first foray into the internet according to Wikipedia was a website called Resignation.com which called for the resignation of President Bill Clinton. Hilarious.
4. Ikea's 2017 catalog is terrifying
This FastCo article is hilarious. "Time to move to Alaska, kids. The cities are officially full." It details Ikea's ridiculous concept of "living space" with micro-apartments that are officially claustrophobic.
Re: a bunk beds for kids in the corner of a living room: "Because if your little ingrate kids wanted privacy so bad, one of them should have absorbed the other in the fucking womb."
LOL
5. 22 laws of marketing, from a software guy
A fascinating take on the old-school "22 immutable laws of marketing" (by Al Ries and Jack Trout), as interpreted through the eyes of a developer, and applied to the world of product management.
6. The last year your CEO has a business major
According to the CMO of Juniper Networks, most companies are stuck with IT infrastructures that are preventing them from accelerating a new product or service. In other words, he argues, a CEO's technical expertise can keep a business moving, and adapt to the changing pace of technology.
I'm not sure I agree. I believe the core function of a CEO is to keep the business moving, sure, but across every measure of expertise and functional area -- not just technology. She should hire the right technology leaders to keep them competitive, right? Curious as to your thoughts.
7. Rt 66 will become America's first public solar road A self-powered public road! Duh!
8."I Replaced The Word ‘Millennials’ With ‘43-Year-Old White Men’ And Now These Headlines Are *Italian Chef Kissing Fingers Gesture*"
I simply could not bring myself to edit this title. Read it. Why is the media so obsessed with millennials?

9. What's in your SkillStack?
I've got a fun column going over at the CabinetM blog, "What's in your SkillStack?" where I interview marketing practitioners like Eddie Morales about their use of marketing technology. Let me know if you'd like to be included!
A presto!
